Model Expo 2011

Last Saturday February 19th my friend Jack and I drove up to Petaluma to attend the Model Expo show as we do every year.  It’s a great show and they have a wonderful raffle.  I brought my two newest models:

Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire Mk IXc

Planet Models 1/48 BT-13 trainer

Neither one got any awards – there was just too much competition.  Another way of saying – other guys stuff was just better than mine.  That’s ok.  I had a lot of fun.

I also enrolled in the speed build where you get 60 minutes to build a model. The club supplies you with the tools and the paint etc. as well as the model.  The models are the same for everyone and are wrapped up so you have no idea what it is until you start.  This year is was a very nice 1/350 German U-boat. Nicely detailed, but they didn’t provide us with tweezers.  With my big fingers that led to problems – ha ha.  I decided to use superglue as that just works better for me in the speed build – the downside is I got my fingers glued together several times.  You gotta be quick in the speed build.  I finished my model and got it painted.  I got all of the parts on except one which flew off in the distance never to be seen again.  I came in second out of 8 guys – missed that $50 first prize by just enough I guess. That was a very quick 60 minutes.

I had fun in the raffle tho.  I won a bunch of models and some decals as well as a one year subscription to Fine Scale Modeler magazine.  Below are pictures of my raffle winnings as well as me in the speed build.  I also have a bunch of pics of the models entered in the judging contest…..
