7/3/2017 I purchased this a few months ago from a www.hobbyterra.com in the Ukraine. The model is made by Master Korabel in Russia. Master Korabel is a Russian wooden ship model kit manufacturer that have been sold in the U.S. for a couple years now. Their kits are all in a scale of 1:72 and they’re developed using Computer Aided Design, or CAD. This mpodel is very complete and very detailed, all parts are laser cut – even the outside hull planks. It has instructions in Russian, but I'm a little rusty so I refer to the picture diagrams and the English instructions. When it's finished it will be 590 mm long, by 440 mm high and 220 mm wide. The only thing I've painted on the finished model are the yard arms, everything else is natural wood color.

Ship description
Two-masted cruising ship with a brigantine sail. The length of the schooner was 24.4 meters , width – 7.3 meters, draft – 2.9 meters. The armament of the ship consisted of 12 guns.
Service history
In 1787, the ship was bought by Russia in Greece and became part of the Black Sea Fleet. Participated in the war with Turkey in 1787-1791. In the autumn of 1787, it passed from Taganrog to Kerch , and then to Sevastopol .
In the summer of 1788, the ship under the command of warrant officer Georgy Nikiforovich Benardaki [1] , as part of Rear-Admiral's squadron Count M. I. Voinovich , went to sea in search of the enemy. On July 3 (14), 1788, the brigantine participated in the first naval battle of the Russian-Turkish war of 1787-1791 near Fidonisi between the fleets of Russia and the Ottoman Empire . In 1789, as part of squads and squadrons, she repeatedly went to sea to search for Turkish ships.
In April 1790, the ship delivered supplies and materials from Kherson to Sevastopol. In May 1790, with the squadron of Rear Admiral F. F. Ushakov , along with other cruiser ships, searched for Turkish ships, participated in the blockade of Anapa , in the battle near the Kerch Strait (was in reserve). In August 1790, in a battle near the island of Tendra , captured 10 Turkish cannon brigantine. In October, the captured Turkish ships escorted to the Dnieper Liman to Ochakov . In November, together with the cruising ship “Clement Pope of Rome” was sent to cruise to the Rumelian coast in the Varna region – m. Kaliakria. They took two Turkish vessels Sakaleva and Tumbaz (captured flooded) from Varna, then returned to Sevastopol and brought the captured vessel Sakaleva there. In April 1791, ships again went to search for Turkish ships to the shores of Tavrida , and then to the Anatolian coast – from Sinop to Constantinople . April 1 sunk two Turkish vessels. In July, the ship in the squadron F. F. Ushakov went to sea. July 31, participated in the battle at Cape Kaliakria .
In 1794, the Phoenix under the command of midshipman S. A. Belisarius with a squadron was on a practical voyage in the Black Sea , and in 1795-1797 in the Black and Azov Seas.
In the war with France of 1798–1800, the ship under the command of Lieutenant L. F. Morskoi was used as a transport ship. In November 1798, the ship arrived from Sevastopol to Corfu with provisions for the squadron of Vice-Admiral F. F. Ushakov. In December 1798, FF Ushakov's demands to Ibrahim Pasha delivered to Avpona to send Turkish troops to storm Corfu, blocking the fortress. At the beginning of 1799 the ship was with a squadron at Corfu, escorting transport ships with captured Frenchmen, entered Messina and arrived in Toulon . In 1801 and 1802 the brigantine sailed between the ports of the Black Sea.
In 1803, the ship was under the command of Lieutenant S. S. Karachinsky with the Nikolaev Nort, dismantled after 1803 in Nikolaev .

7/6/2017 Moving along nicely. I've used my wife's curling iron to make curves in soaked wood – it works fantastic. Latest photos:

7/17/17 I've finished the first layer of hull planking, then sanded with 60, 150, then 220 grit sandpaper.
8/2/2017 I've now finished the inner bulwarks.
8/10/2017 The second set of hull planks have been installed, also the decking and internal hull sheeting. The wood here is untreated, I plan on staining the wood with MinWax stain, and I hope that I've gotten all of the wood glue removed (sanded off) or the stain will have another color. I can see in these pictures that there are areas that need attention. Any suggestions on glue removal? I've tried to be really careful, but evidently not careful enough.
8/12/2017 I've done a bit more – added trim pieces inside and outside and stained the deck (Minwax Golden Oak) and the rest of the hull (Minwax Natural). I'm not to happy with the deck as it a little splotchy due to the variation in the wood.
8-21-2017 I've redone the deck color and added some deck furnature and the rudder hinges.
8/27/2017 I've added a few more deck items and finished the bow area. I've used almost no paint on this – it's all Minwax natural, ebony, dark walnut and golden oak.
8/31/2017 The hull is now finished as well as the ships boat. Next up are the cannon.
11/20/2017 It's been 3 months, so here is an update with the cannons installed and rigged.

10/7/2023 Getting set up to finish the Phoenix.
10/12/2023 Foremast reefing lines are finished.
10/14/2023 All of the reefing lines are now finished.
I soaked the sails in Minwax Pickled Oak, blotted them dry with paper towels, and then hung them up to dry.

11/2/2023 A little more progress….
11/7/2023 I now have 5 of the 8 sails attached and rigged.
11/16/2023 A little bit more finished. All of the sails are now on except one.
11/19/2023 All of the sails have now been attached and just a few more rigging lines to go before the rigging is done. Then I need to make the coiled ropes, attach the flags and finish the display stand.
11/24/2023 I'm now constructing about 73 coiled ropes to go over the belayng pins.
11/28/2023 The Brigantine Phoenix is finished. All except for one name plate that is in the mail. It's been a very nice experience, and I'm really glad it's done.
